Virt-A-Mate from VRPorn Premium: where the game is, where the code is, and why the Quest says “file unsupported”

The download is not the game. It is a small zip with an updater and a text file holding your code, and almost every complaint under the game's page comes from expecting something else.

The short answer

Download the zip on a Windows PC, not on the headset. Extract it, run the VaM updater inside it to install the game, then start VaM and type the code from the “premium code” text file at the main menu. A Quest cannot open the file because Virt-A-Mate is a PC game: you play it on the Quest through Meta Horizon Link, Air Link or Steam Link from that PC.

Install, from download to main menu

  1. Download on the PC. Sign in to VRPorn.com Premium on a Windows computer (the page recommends Windows 10) and download Virt-A-Mate from its game page. Do not download it in the headset browser: the Quest will only report an unsupported file.
  2. Extract the zip. Unpack it into a folder with plenty of free space, such as a second drive. Inside are the VaM updater and a text file named “premium code”. There is no game .exe yet; that is expected.
  3. Run the updater. The updater downloads and installs the game itself. Let it finish before opening anything.
  4. Enter the code. Start Virt-A-Mate and type the code from the “premium code” file at the main menu. This unlocks the Entertainer tier included with Premium.
  5. Patch to 1.22.0.13. The game page asks every player to update to 1.22.0.13 for security reasons. Plugins stay disabled by default; leave them off unless you trust where they came from.
  6. Connect the headset. Put on the Quest, connect it to the PC with Meta Horizon Link over cable or Air Link, and start Virt-A-Mate from the desktop. Players also report launching the OpenVR executable in the VaM folder when they use Steam Link.

What you actually receive

Virt-A-Mate is the most discussed game on VRPorn.com by a wide margin: its page carries more than 650 comments, over twice as many as the next most-discussed game we checked. Read a few dozen and a pattern shows up. One player got "only a key" and asked where the game was. Another asked, simply, "No .exe file?" A third couldn't find the key at all, then came back to say they had.

All three describe the same zip. A Premium member receives a code and an updater, and the updater does the installing. A site regular spelled out the order in the comments: download to the PC, not the Quest, run the updater, then enter the code from the "premium code" text file at the main menu. Nobody under the page has disputed it, and it matches an earlier reply describing the package as a code plus an updater.

The Quest error, explained

"It says the file is unsupported" is the Quest 3 owner's version of the same misunderstanding. The headset is right: Virt-A-Mate runs only on Windows with a DirectX 11 graphics card, and the game page states plainly that it does not run natively on a Quest. The answer from the site was to connect the Quest to a gaming PC through the Meta Horizon Link app; our guide to Link, Air Link, Virtual Desktop and Steam Link compares the options.

A player last month asked for a Quest-only build, playable in the browser. The reply from another player was four words long and correct: not enough processing power. If you have no gaming PC, Virt-A-Mate is not the place to start. Browser games such as the RockHardVR titles run on the headset alone; see what to do when those won't start. The other PC sandbox in Premium, Adult VR Game Room, trips Quest owners in the same way; its download and version problems have their own page.

How much PC is enough

The requirements on the page are the developer's recommendation rather than a minimum: an Intel i7-7000 series processor at 3.6 GHz or faster, an Nvidia GTX 1080 Ti or better, 16 GB of RAM. Expect scenes with several characters to be the first place a weaker card struggles. If the game crashes rather than slows down, memory is the usual cause; our crash and missing-package fix follows the developer's own wiki on that. If you rent a cloud PC instead of buying one, pick a machine above that line, not at it.

The Entertainer tier is not the whole game

Premium includes the Entertainer build. One player who builds scenes pointed out that adding people and objects directly isn't possible in this tier without workarounds, and recommended the creator tier from Virt-A-Mate's own site for that. If you want to play existing scenes, the Premium build covers it. If you want to make your own from scratch, factor in the developer's higher tier.

Keep it patched

The game page carries a security notice: update to 1.22.0.13 immediately, and note that plugins are disabled by default. Be aware the page's own summary still mentions 1.22.0.12; the notice and the description both name .13, and that is the one to install. Plugins run code on your computer, so the default is worth keeping unless you know the author. The exception most Premium members meet is vamX, which is built from plugins; our vamX setup fix covers that prompt and the install order.

Quick answers

Why is there no .exe in the Virt-A-Mate download?
Because the Premium download is an updater plus a code. Running the updater installs the game; the .exe appears after that.
Where is the Virt-A-Mate premium code?
In a text file named “premium code” inside the zip. Enter it at Virt-A-Mate's main menu.
Can Virt-A-Mate run on a Quest 3 without a PC?
No. It is a Windows game that needs a DirectX 11 graphics card. The Quest acts as the display through Link, Air Link or Steam Link.
What PC does Virt-A-Mate need?
The game page recommends an Intel i7-7000 series at 3.6 GHz or faster, an Nvidia GTX 1080 Ti or better and 16 GB of RAM, on Windows 10.
