Quick answers
- Is Virt-A-Mate included in VRPorn Premium?
- Yes. Premium members download the Entertainer build, a zip with an updater and a code you enter at the main menu.
- Does Virt-A-Mate run on a Quest 3 without a PC?
- No. It needs a Windows PC; the Quest connects to it through Link, Air Link or Steam Link.
- What is the difference between the Entertainer and Creator tiers?
- Entertainer builds add content and interactivity for playing scenes. Creator builds add full scene editing inside VR.
- Can I play it without a VR headset?
- Yes, there is a desktop mode.
- How do I add vamX to Virt-A-Mate?
- vamX installs on top of Virt-A-Mate, so set up VaM from Premium first, then add vamX and allow its plugins. vamX setup guide
- Why does Virt-A-Mate crash or run out of memory?
- Usually memory: the official wiki calls 32 GB of RAM a good spot and says 16 GB needs a restart now and then. People loading without hair, clothes or skins means a missing .var package. Crash, memory and package fixes
Our read, before we play it
Unmatched depth, a PC bill to match, and a learning curve that the Premium build does nothing to flatten.
Worth it if
- You have a gaming PC around GTX 1080 Ti level or better
- You enjoy tinkering: loading community scenes, adjusting looks, fixing a missing package
- You want one tool that can keep you busy for years rather than one evening
Skip it if
- Your only device is a Quest without a PC
- You want to put the headset on and play in five minutes
- You plan to build scenes from scratch: the Entertainer tier limits that, the Creator tier on Patreon does not

From Premium to playing

A toolkit that happens to be adult
Virt-A-Mate does not hand you a story. It hands you people with physics running through them: joints, soft bodies, hair and fabric that react to what you do, plus a way to record motion with your own controllers and play it back. Everything else, from the room to the lighting, is yours to set. That is why players keep comparing new adult games to it, and why so many of those games lose the comparison on depth.
The price of that depth is paid twice. First by your computer: the recommended machine on the game page is a Windows 10 PC with an i7-7000 series processor at 3.6 GHz or faster, a GTX 1080 Ti and 16 GB of RAM, and that is the comfortable line rather than the floor. Then by your patience. Even fans who praise it on itch.io describe the menus as clunky and the first weeks as a climb.
What VRPorn Premium actually gives you
The Premium download is the Entertainer build, listed on the game page as version 1.22.0.13. MeshedVR's own Patreon explains the tiers: Entertainer builds add content, interactivity and customisation for playing scenes, while the Creator tier unlocks full scene editing inside VR and the animation and motion-capture tools. In practice the Premium build is for loading and playing what the community has made, and the large shared library of scenes and looks is what makes that worthwhile.
If editing is the point for you, the Creator tier is a separate purchase from the developer. One player under the VRPorn listing put it bluntly: adding people and objects yourself takes workarounds in this version.
The first hour is the hard part
Most of the 650-plus comments under the game on VRPorn.com are about getting started, not about playing. The zip contains an updater and a code; the game is installed by the updater; the code goes in at the main menu. We walk through it, including the "file unsupported" message Quest owners see, in our install fix.
Toys, and the game layer on top
Virt-A-Mate on its own is a sandbox. vamX is the add-on that turns it into something closer to a game, with ready scenes, voices and toy sync for Lovense, The Handy and OSR strokers. It is also included with Premium, and it is where most people who want less tinkering end up.
Our read
For a PC owner who likes building things, nothing else in adult VR comes close, and on Premium it comes bundled with everything else the subscription covers. For anyone on a standalone headset, or anyone who wants to be playing within minutes, this is the wrong first game, and the browser titles on the same subscription are the better start. Quest owners with a capable PC can still get in: our guide to PC VR games on a Quest compares Link, Air Link and Virtual Desktop.
What reviewers and players report
Reviewers there call the physics the most advanced they have used and the menus clunky in the same breath; one owner of two years says it still takes time to learn.
The most common complaint under the game is not about the game at all: people expect an installer and find a zip with an updater and a code.

Adding people and objects directly isn't possible in the version Premium gives you without workarounds; for building, get the game from the source.

Known problems and how to get past them
- Virt-A-Mate keeps crashing, runs out of memory, or loads people without hair and clothes: the fixes from the official wikiMost Virt-A-Mate breakdowns fall into four groups, and the developer's own wiki on hub.virtamate.com has an answer for each. The trouble is that the answers are spread across a FAQ, an error list and two settings pages. We put them in one place, in the order you are likely to need them.
- Setting up vamX: which copy you have, what to install first, and why the vamX menu sometimes never appearsMost vamX setup trouble starts with a naming problem. The same word covers a standalone bundle with its own updater, a plugin package you add to Virt-A-Mate, and the older build on VRPorn.com Premium, and each one starts and updates differently.
- Virt-A-Mate from VRPorn Premium: where the game is, where the code is, and why the Quest says “file unsupported”The download is not the game. It is a small zip with an updater and a text file holding your code, and almost every complaint under the game's page comes from expecting something else.
- Every VRPorn.com game we cover, sorted by headset: what runs on a Quest alone and what needs a PCVRPorn.com sorts its games into two labels, PC Game and WebXR, and the first one hides a surprise: three of the games that run on a Quest with no computer at all are filed as PC games. We went through the listing and every game we cover to sort them by what your headset actually needs.
- Is VRPorn Premium worth it for the games? Only if you know which kind of listing you are paying forPremium is sold on VRPorn.com mostly as a video subscription, with "Premium VR Games" as one line on each plan card. Behind that line sit four different kinds of listing, and just one of them matches what most people imagine when they pay. Sorting them out is the quickest way to decide whether the games alone justify the price.
- Playing VRPorn.com's PC games on a Quest 3 or 3S: Link, Air Link, Virtual Desktop or Steam LinkA Quest cannot open a Windows game, and VRPorn.com's comment threads are full of people who found that out after the download finished. The headset can still play them, as a screen and controllers for a PC that does the work. There are four ways to connect the two, and our games do not treat them equally.
